Characteristics of Black moor goldfish
This fish is one of the most popular goldfish in the aquarium industry which is characterized by its protruding eyes. Telescope eyes goldfish is said to be originated from the mutation of ryukin hence having a deep body and long flowing fins.
Initial telescope eyes goldfish (or Demekin) was red and black moor was introduced to the market afterwards.
Other telescopic eyes goldfish
Calico telescopic goldfish
Other than that calico colouration, this fish is exactly same as other telescope goldfish like black moor and normal telescope eyes goldfish

Panda telescopic goldfish
As the name imply, this fish has two colours black and white where each fins and eyes are covered in black just like panda. Sometimes some other panda telescope goldfish has red body instead of white or combination of black, white and red and such fish is called red panda.
See below video of how the panda telescope is looking like.
Butterfly tail
In order for you to say, “yes that’s a butterfly”, you will have to look down this goldfish from top. This volume of tails are very eye catchy and simply magnificent.
This video below from Solid Gold Aquatics channel shows beautiful panda butterfly telescopes.
How to care
No need to be scared! It’s not that different from how to look after other type of goldfish but pretty much same as how you should be looking after ryukin, ranchu and/or pearl scale for example and you will be just fine.
Although having said that, what you should be considering when you care your black moor is that the environments you provide them should not harm their protruding eyes.
No sharp edge accessories
Eyes are sensitive, agree?
And their large bulbous eyes are protruding both sides of its head so it is obvious that they can get injured fairly easily when compared with normal goldfish. For this situations, if there are rough and/or sharp rocks, gravels, ornaments are exposed, the risk is there.
Occasionally, plastic plants do hurt them too. Yes, plastic can be strong enough to cause trouble.
So if you worry and would like to eliminate risks that can occur in your aquarium, consider removing those items to create safer environment for your black moor goldfish.
Fish net

You cannot neglect that it’s just a net. It is rare case but possible to harm black moor’s eyes. Make sure not to handle roughly as the edge of fish net may hit their eyes or net may rubs their eyes.
Gentle, please.
They won’t swim fast anyways so no need to rush.
Careful what fish to mix
As telescopic eyes goldfish are produced from ryukin, they therefore have deep body along with long fins. Comparing with single tail goldfish such as Comet and Shubunkin goldfish, these types of goldfish won’t have as good swimming ability as that of single tail goldfish.
Hence, if you would like to take extra care for your precious pet telescope eyes goldfish, it may not be a good idea to mix with the ones that swim fast and strong. It is a possibility but those who can swim fast may swim really vigorous for some reasons and ended up crashing into their protruding eyes or rub them rough enough to cause problem.
So consider introducing slow swimmer like ranchu, pearl scale, or oranda. However, there is some violent temper fish nonetheless of types of goldfish so you will still need to keep your eyes on to give them a good care.
Life span
Please check this out.
Amazing, right? I’m surprised.
So as long as you provide the good environment and good care for your pet, they will live with you very long time.
You don’t think you can make it that far?
Provide them a good food for right amount. Clean your aquarium constantly to keep up the water quality. Although they can tolerate wide range of temperature, try to maintain as steady as possible to reduce the stress.
Then you can expect over 10 years. It doesn’t sound so difficult to accomplish, does it?
Black moor that turns red!
Black moor goldfish is, as mentioned above, originated from ryukin and this ryukin is produced from wakin and common goldfish. Due to its bloodline, it is possible for black moor to turn into red as they grow.
This also depends on each fish so some may turn into red or some may stay matte black for its entire life.
Losing black colour doesn’t mean your fish is getting sick so do not worry, it happens.
Conclusion
Black moor may need little more care than that of comet and shubunkin goldfish whereas giving the appropriate conditions makes them a lot happier and you can live with them for very long time. You may need little more attention to keep black moor or other telescope eye goldfish but you will not regret doing so when they grow to mature size.
They are gorgeous fish.
