Aquarium Relocation

Aquarium relocation can be very tough as moving without pet is already troublesome enough. Moving fish tank and tropical fish is time consuming and can be extremely challenging task.

It needs to be well prepared for packing, moving & reinstalling to new home on the date. Furthermore, depending on the size of aquarium and distance from A to B vary the degree of difficulty. Here, in this article explain roughly how the process will be taken.

Required Preparation Prior to the Date

For aquarium relocation, your pet tropical fish requires adequate attention especially during transit. The project needs to be prepared beforehand so that every process will be fulfilled fairly smoothly without rushing. In order to prepare for the date, we need detailed information as follow.

  • Dimensions (Length x Width x Height) of fish tank
  • Type of fish
  • Sizes of fish
  • Number of fish
  • Addresses (where from and where to)

The most important factor that needs an attention is the temperature and oxygen while in transit. Also, the way of transporting fish without damaging them will be considered.

Things to Prepare

These lists of items are the basic items that we will prepare for the situation.

  • Plastic Bags
  • Air Pump
  • Foam Boxes
  • Plastic Containers
  • Cardboards (if necessary)

Do not feed fish the day before the moving day. This will prevent them releasing a lot of wastes while transporting which then leads to degrade the water quality.

Due to those items listed above needing to be prepared beforehand, the detailed information about your aquarium is required.

  • Dimensions (Length x Width x Height)
  • Types of fish
  • Sizes of fish
  • Numbers of fish
  • Filtration type
  • Address (where from & where to)

On the Moving Day

Depending on the number, size of the fish, they will be packed in the containers for small numbers. They will then be aerated if necessary. In the mean time, gravels, ornaments and equipments such as filter, heater etc will be packed in each box.

In order to minimize the stress and the risk of new tank syndrome for your pet fish, current water will also be transported to new location.

At the New Location

First of all, the aquarium needs to be placed to wherever the location you prefer. Once it is positioned to preferred location, the power supply, electric equipments will be checked if there’s malfunction or not and install them if no problem.

Gravels and ornaments will also be installed at the same time. Then, we will use the water from previous place as well as new water to top up and run the filter for awhile.

No need to turn on the UV sterilizer at this stage if it’s in the system. When the reading temperature is adjusted to desired level, fish will be introduced slowly.

No need to feed them on moving day as they’re stressed out and should be settled down to new environment first.

Please keep your eyes onto your fish if you see any signs of sickness. Normally when they seem to swim around no problem in the next day, you can start to feed them but slowly to avoid over feeding.
